Second Church in Boston (third) merges with the New Brick Church.

June 27, 1779

The combined congregation meets at the New Brick Church on the north corner of Hanover Street and Richmond Street near today’s 265 Hanover Street. The congregation becomes Unitarian in 1802. Ralph Waldo Emerson serves as minister from 1829 to 1832. The church is replaced (fourth) in 1845. The congregation moves to the Freeman Place chapel (fifth) in 1850,* and the former church building is torn down in 1871.
